Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Placed on Suicide Watch Amid Pretrial Detention at Brooklyn’s MDC

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been placed on suicide watch during his pretrial detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn. While it remains unclear if Combs is suicidal, People reported that the decision was made as a precautionary measure, likely due to the rapper’s mental state and shock following his imprisonment.

According to sources, the move is part of “supervisory precautions” meant to ensure Combs is under constant observation. This decision follows concerns from Combs’ legal team, who described MDC as a dangerous and understaffed facility housing 1,600 inmates. They also highlighted the high number of deaths and suicides at the center.

In their motion for bail, Combs’ attorneys stated, “Several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention,” according to The Daily Beast. They also noted that an inmate was murdered earlier this summer and that four suicides have occurred at the facility in the past three years.

During a court hearing, Combs’ legal team requested his transfer to a prison in Essex County, New Jersey, after their request for him to await trial under house arrest at his Florida mansion was denied. The Bureau of Prisons will ultimately decide Combs’ fate. A warden at MDC reportedly expressed concern, saying Combs’ “life and safety are in jeopardy.”

A law enforcement official told CNN that Combs is being held alone in a special housing unit at the Brooklyn facility. Cameron Lindsay, a former warden, explained to NewsNation that the special housing unit is a 24-hour lockdown facility. “Combs will likely be in his cell 23 hours a day,” Lindsay said, adding that the rapper will have limited recreation, three showers a week, and minimal social interaction.

Combs’ day-to-day life at MDC includes limited meal options. Breakfast consists of fruit, cereal, breakfast cakes, and skim milk, with lunch offering chicken wraps, baked chicken, or beef tacos. Dinner selections range from chili mac to Salisbury steak, with weekends featuring cheese pizza with spinach. Inmates can also purchase additional items from the commissary.

The charges against Combs include allegations of forcing victims to participate in “freak offs,” described by prosecutors as “elaborate and produced sexual performances.” His legal team is currently working to secure his release on bail.
