Speaking on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday night, de Blasio revealed that he’s grappling with mixed emotions about the unfolding situation.
“I have two different feelings at this moment,” de Blasio said. On the one hand, he expressed deep concern for the city’s future in light of the serious charges against Adams, marking the first time a sitting mayor of New York City has been indicted on criminal charges. On the other hand, de Blasio was quick to emphasize the importance of due process, as per reports Newsweek.
“Innocent until proven guilty is the American way,” he reminded viewers. “We have to be very careful here. We haven’t seen anything specific, and we don’t know what this is yet.” De Blasio urged restraint, pointing out that neither the full details of the charge nor Adams’ defense had been made public. “So I’m feeling very, you know, two different feelings at this moment.”

Kurtzman further remarked that Adams has often responded to accusations of ethical misconduct by invoking racial politics. “He has never been reluctant to play the race card whenever accused of any ethical transgression, of which there have been many instances,” Kirtzman noted. “He just played it today when AOC called on his resignation.”
Pressure on Prominent Democrats
As the political drama unfolds, Kurtzman emphasized the pressure now facing major Democratic figures, including Senator Chuck Schumer, Governor Kathy Hochul, and President Joe Biden. With Adams’ indictment, they will be forced to navigate tricky political terrain.
“Biden will face a lot of pressure,” Kirtzman observed, drawing a comparison to the case of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Biden publicly called on Cuomo to resign in the wake of multiple sexual harassment allegations, despite the fact that Cuomo faced no criminal charges at the time.
