Selena Gomez recently opened up about a difficult period in her life that left her so unsettled, she no longer feels comfortable sleeping in her own bedroom. The 32-year-old singer and actress shared her experience while speaking as the keynote speaker at Wondermind’s Mental Fitness Summit.

Gomez, known for hits like Who Says and her role in Wizards of Waverly Place, admitted, “I’m a little bit different than my mom because I spent too much time in my bedroom that I actually don’t even sleep in my bedroom anymore.” She explained that her bedroom has become associated with a particularly “dark time” in her life, leading her to avoid it entirely.

The pop star reflected on her struggles with anxiety, describing how it often felt overwhelming and kept her confined to her bed for extended periods. “Being anxious is so debilitating sometimes. I didn’t want to leave my bed for years,” Gomez confessed, told People.

Gomez also acknowledged that part of her healing process involved recognizing that she wasn’t fully working through her emotions. She shared, “Part of it is I wasn’t doing the work. You have to believe in yourself and do the work that will truly enlighten you a little bit, even if that is watching a show for 30 minutes.”

To cope with her racing mind during sleepless nights, Gomez recounted how she would remind herself, “This will pass, just let it go through your body and it’ll go away.” Eventually, this mindset helped her find some peace and allowed her to rest.

Gomez’s candid discussion about her mental health journey is part of her broader efforts to promote mental fitness and self-care, encouraging others to seek healing and embrace the work required for emotional well-being.
