17-Year-Old Suspect Arrested in Heartbreaking Murder of 9-Year-Old Cailee Knight
The fifth suspect in the tragic murder of 9-year-old Cailee Knight has been taken into custody and booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail. The suspect, a 17-year-old girl, was extradited from Texas, Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood confirmed to FOX10 News. She faces charges of two counts of capital murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm into a building.
Last month, during a press conference, District Attorney Blackwood addressed the role of the teenage suspect, though specific details were not disclosed. He indicated that she acted as an accessory to the murder, describing her involvement as that of “an aider and abettor.” Blackwood explained, “As the investigation unfolded, it revealed that they had a role, as in aiding and abetting.
They were there to support what was going on and we believe knew what was going on.” The case dates back to last December when Cailee Knight was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting while sleeping on her couch on Rhett Drive. The incident, which shocked the community, led to a thorough investigation culminating in the indictment of five individuals: Ariel Curry, Tyrone Williams, Darius Lucky, Ricki Thier, and the 17-year-old suspect.
All five were indicted by a grand jury last month, and the charges were elevated from murder to capital murder. Blackwood provided a statement to FOX10 News regarding the latest arrest, reinforcing his office’s commitment to justice for Cailee. This arrest represents a significant step in holding those responsible for her tragic death accountable.
