Nicole Kidman, known for her role in Eyes Wide Shut, is set to star in the upcoming erotic thriller Babygirl, slated for release on December 25, 2025. In a recent interview for the December issue of GQ Magazine, the actress offered insight into the movie’s provocative themes and her thoughts on its portrayal of intimacy and consent.

“I’m not a huge fan of massive blanket statements,” Kidman shared when discussing the film’s approach to its mature subject matter. She elaborated, “No, you’re not gonna wanna sit there and see s** that’s exploitative.” Instead, Kidman emphasized the importance of nuance, adding, “It’s gotta be looked at and dissected and it’s consent, and there’s all those things around that.”

The actress, who has never shied away from complex and challenging roles, touched on the universality of the movie’s themes. “But we are human, and it is a huge part of who we are,” she remarked, reflecting on the exploration of sexuality and its role in human identity.

Kidman also shed light on the personal inspiration behind the project, revealing that director Halina Reign wrote the film as a deeply introspective piece. “I’m extremely confused and ashamed about my sexuality and about my body, and especially growing older, it’s not going away,” Kidman quoted Reign, highlighting the raw and vulnerable nature of the movie’s core.

The film delves into issues of intimacy, shame, and self-discovery, themes that resonate deeply with Kidman’s past performances in emotionally charged narratives. With Babygirl, both Kidman and Reign appear to aim for an honest exploration of human desires and insecurities, steering clear of exploitative depictions.

While the film promises bold and raunchy moments, its deeper intent to navigate the complexities of human sexuality and the societal pressures surrounding it adds a layer of introspection to the story. Kidman’s collaboration with Reign suggests a thoughtful and layered cinematic experience that is likely to spark conversations about consent, aging, and the evolving nature of self-acceptance. As the release date approaches, Babygirl is shaping up to be not just an erotic thriller but also a powerful exploration of themes that are rarely tackled with such honesty in mainstream cinema.
