The two-year-old boy killed in a fireplace accident after being ‘left at home alone’ with his sister while his mother went to work has been pictured for the first time. Two-year-old Carter Walsh tragically lost his life after a fireplace fell on him at his home in Wigan on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred while Carter was reportedly dancing with his sister.

Emergency services, including the North West Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene on Fisher Close, and Carter was transported to the hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away shortly after arrival.

The boy’s great-aunt, Karen, shared his photo and name on a GoFundMe page set up to support the grieving family. “Hi, my name is Karen. I am doing a GoFund page on behalf of my niece Samantha, who has tragically lost her 2-year-old son Carter to a fatal accident,” she wrote.

Reports from Wigan Today indicate that Carter was home with his sister—who is of legal age to supervise children—while their mother was at work.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with police and paramedics converging on the scene. A local resident told Wigan Today, “We saw a lot of police and ambulance activity but didn’t know what it was at the time. Now we know, it is appalling news. I feel so sorry for the family.”

Greater Manchester Police issued a statement confirming their involvement. “At around 2.15 pm yesterday, officers were called to reports regarding a concern for the welfare of a child on Fisher Close, Wigan. Sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, a two-year-old boy died at the hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Tributes have since poured in for Carter, with many expressing their heartbreak over the devastating loss. Ellie Sutcliffe posted on Facebook, “RIP Carter beautiful boy what a cruel world we live in.” Another mourner, Vikki Taylor, wrote, “My heart is broken for you all. RIP Carter.” Claire Louise added simply, “RIP Little Carter.”

The community continues to rally around the family, offering condolences and support during this unimaginable tragedy. Investigations into the circumstances of the incident remain ongoing as the family mourns the loss of their beloved little boy.
