Wendy Williams Received Support From Nick Cannon Following The Cancellation Of Her Talk Show
So Nick Cannon doesn’t just talk the talk, he walks the walk?
In the realm of daytime talk shows, the past several months have been extremely fierce. After 19 seasons, The Ellen DeGeneres Show came to an end. The Wendy Williams Show, The Real, and Nick Cannon’s self-titled entry, among others, were all canceled in the meanwhile. In the case of Williams, temporary replacements had been made for a while as the show’s namesake apparently faced health and financial issues. Her production company’s patience apparently ran out, but the celebrity allegedly received significant support from fellow fired and lifelong friend Cannon after the cancellation.
Sherri Shepherd, who had been routinely filling in as a temporary host, will take the position of the controversial “Hot Topics” talker in her time slot. Debmar-Mercury, a division of Lionsgate, followed the action by excluding Wendy Williams from her show’s finale. (The creators substituted a tribute video.) The same business had fronted Nick Cannon’s show, and he allegedly didn’t like how he and Williams were handled, according to a source for Page Six. The Wild ‘N Out alum is additionally reported to have spoken out against Shepherd’s appointment:
“Nick Cannon would not endorse her out of allegiance to Wendy. He wasn’t cool with how they handled him and how they abruptly canceled his show and hustled everyone out of there and took their computers and shit.”
Nick Cannon’s first season was shown on TV and was also available to watch on YouTube after Wendy Williams’ show. According to the source, Cannon felt “indebted” to Williams, whose belief in him allegedly inspired the development of his own talk show. However, it appears that in order to “propel Nick’s numbers,” Debmar-Mercury relied excessively on luring in viewers from TWWS and The Real, and as a result, “they failed miserably.”
Another outlet insider, though, denies the claims made regarding the host of The Masked Singer’s purported loyalty to Wendy Williams. They claim that it is completely “not true” that he would support Sherri Shepherd as a replacement. In fact, they claimed that he was “always a pleasure and business professional” in his dealings with BTS.
According to early reports, Nick Cannon only intended to take a five-week break from the syndicated chat show to attend to his other filming commitments (The Masked Singer and Wild ‘N Out). But eventually, there was talk of a sudden change in Debmar- Mercury that resulted in the cancellation of the entire series, with the crew receiving severance pay. After the show’s cancellation, Cannon said in a statement that he understood the “business” reasons for the decision, adding that he was essentially just going with the flow of change.
The actor of Drumline has a lot on his plate already, including many children he has recently helped in conceiving, in addition to supposedly attempting to block Sherri Shepherd’s rise to fame as a host. (According to the most recent count, his ninth child will arrive later this year.) The media celebrity has been forced to retract some of his claims about seeking to win back his ex-wife Mariah Carey.
Back to Wendy Williams, though. Williams’ show’s season finale received harsh criticism from Williams’ ex-husband and the audience for the way it handled the situation by leaving her out of the plans. Williams gave her opinion in a conversation with The New York Post. The supposed tribute to her efforts on the show, she told them, was “nothing” she liked. She also confirmed rumors that Debmar-Mercury had not even sent her an invitation for a final appearance, noting that her main reaction while watching it from her living room was “Eek!”
Williams’ followers received some bad news as she prepared for her life beyond the talk show. Recently, practically all traces of her old show on the internet were removed, making it seem as though it never existed. Indeed, eek. Although Season 8 of The Masked Singer and Sherri’s debut season are scheduled for fall premieres on the 2022 TV schedule, it appears like Nick Cannon and Sherri Shepherd will be just fine going ahead.
