The 75-year-old monarch made a surprise visit to an army barracks in Hampshire on Thursday and joked about being “allowed out of my cage.” The King had remained out of public view for almost three months following his unspecified cancer diagnosis and was led into the officers’ mess by Lt. Col. Grant.
Charles, as per BBC, told the officer: “I do apologize for taking you by surprise when this opportunity appeared and I had been allowed out of my cage, I wanted to come to have a look.” The King’s words described how the future Queen would feel being “under the cage” as she’s not allowed to make public appearances while undergoing preventative chemotherapy.
Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has not made any official public appearances since Christmas due to her own health issues. She has been undergoing treatment for the past four months. In March, Kate released an emotional video statement announcing her cancer diagnosis and revealing that she was undergoing chemotherapy.
