Biden Takes a Lighthearted Jab at Trump During First Event with Harris as Nominee
President Joe Biden held his first public event alongside Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday since officially stepping aside as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee. The event, held in Maryland, was organized to announce a significant deal aimed at lowering prescription drug prices—a key promise from Biden’s 2020 campaign.
As Biden took the podium, he was greeted with chants of “Thank you, Joe” from the enthusiastic crowd. However, before diving into the details of the prescription drug initiative, Biden took a moment to humorously poke fun at his likely opponent, Donald Trump. Known for being the target of Trump’s frequent jabs about his age and health, Biden playfully pretended to forget Trump’s name, told NBC News.
“Guess what, the guy we’re running against, what’s his name?” Biden joked, pausing for effect. “Donald Dump? Or Donald whatever? He wanted to get rid of this, what we passed. They’re fighting to get rid of what we just passed. No, I’m serious. No help from Republicans to pass the Inflation Reduction Act.”
Biden then turned to acknowledge Harris’s crucial role in passing the legislation, thanking her for casting the tie-breaking vote in the U.S. Senate, which was essential for the bill’s passage.
“Folks,” Biden said, addressing the audience, “it really matters.”
The event served not only as a platform to highlight the administration’s achievements but also as a chance for Biden to show his wit and reinforce the significance of the ongoing efforts to reduce healthcare costs for Americans.
