Prince Harry Seen as ‘Grumpy Spare’ After Tense Moment with Meghan Markle, claims royal editor

Meghan Markle has come under fire for her role in a recent trip to Colombia, with accusations that she is turning Prince Harry into a “grumpy spare.” These claims were made by royal editor Matt Wilkinson in an article for The Royal Observer.
Wilkinson criticized the couple’s second unofficial trip, which he dubbed a “faux royal tour,” claiming it was largely centered around Meghan. He referred to the trip as the “Meghan Show” and suggested that much of the media attention was orchestrated to focus on her.
“A lot of it was about Meghan,” Wilkinson stated. “The images and the words sent out to us via the Sussex press office, not just by a pool reporter… it was all about Meghan.” He further asserted that the entire trip seemed to be created with Meghan at the center.
Wilkinson also pointed to photographs from the trip, highlighting how Prince Harry appeared “pouty” in several moments where the focus was on Meghan. He noted that footage captured by onlookers who were not part of the press pool presented a different view of the couple’s dynamic.
“And when you saw the footage that was filmed by people at the dinners or people who were there that weren’t part of this press pool, they showed a slightly different picture,” Wilkinson explained. “Harry looked a little bit grumpy.”
Wilkinson went on to suggest that Harry’s demeanor during the trip evoked the idea of him being the “spare,” a term famously used in reference to his position as the second-born prince. “He perhaps looked a bit like ‘the spare!'” Wilkinson concluded.
The commentary underscores ongoing criticism surrounding Meghan and Harry’s public appearances, with critics accusing Meghan of overshadowing her husband during their joint engagements.
