Caitlyn Jenner Reflects on Key Conversations with Robert Kardashian Sr. Amid Kris Jenner’s Divorce
Caitlyn Jenner has often spoken about her conversations with Robert Kardashian Sr., Kris Jenner’s first husband, and how those discussions left a lasting impact on her. In the 2023 documentary House of Kardashian, produced by Peacock and available on Netflix, Caitlyn shared new details about her involvement during Kris and Robert’s difficult divorce.
According to Cheat Sheet, Caitlyn, when she entered the picture, Kris was going through a tough time with Robert. “He was doing everything to kind of make her life miserable,” Caitlyn recalled. Witnessing the struggles, she took it upon herself to step in. “I called Robert up and said, ‘Hey, let’s go to dinner,'” Caitlyn revealed. During that meeting, Caitlyn urged Robert to finalize the divorce, telling him, “Kris is moving on.
Sorry, but she’s moving on.” Caitlyn offered to take over from there and pushed for the divorce papers to be signed swiftly. “And he did,” she noted, allowing Kris and Caitlyn to marry shortly after in a Bel-Air ceremony. Kris and Robert’s relationship had a long history before the split.
They met at a horse race in 1973 when Kris was just 17 and Robert was 28. Despite their age difference, they married and had four children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob. However, after years of marriage, they divorced in 1991. Despite the bitter ending, Robert remained close to the family due to their shared children.
The Mirror reported in her 2011 memoir, Kris detailed the reasons behind their split. She admitted to having an affair in 1989 with a man she referred to as “Ryan,” which left her feeling both exhilarated and guilty. “It made me feel young, attractive, sexy, and alive,” Kris wrote, while also realizing how much she had lost in her marriage with Robert. “Robert was the greatest guy in the world.
He would never cheat on me. He only wanted the best for me.” Kris revisited her divorce from Robert in a 2021 interview with the Wall Street Journal, reflecting on the challenges she faced after separating from the late lawyer. Kris revealed that before the divorce, she had never paid a bill.
“I woke up one day to responsibilities that I hadn’t had the day before,” she said. Forced to adapt, Kris learned to manage her own finances, which she described as an empowering experience. “I felt such an enormous sense of accomplishment to figure it all out… pay my own bills, make my own money, and do my own taxes,” she said, reflecting on her journey to independence.
