Blake Shelton admits he never thought of marrying Gwen Stefani after their first meeting
Blake Shelton has openly shared a surprising revelation about his initial impressions upon meeting Gwen Stefani. Despite their strong connection now, Shelton admitted that when they first met on the set of “The Voice” in 2014, he did not envision Stefani as his future wife. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Blake recalled, “The first season Gwen was on The Voice we met [but] we really didn’t talk that much.”
This candid confession reflects the unpredictable nature of relationships and how they can evolve over time. The couple first crossed paths professionally, in a setting filled with music and competition, during a pivotal time in Stefani’s personal life.
Reflecting on his experience with Gwen, Blake said, “If you would’ve told me the first season that we met that what was gonna happen, I would’ve been like, ‘No, we actually don’t even have anything to even talk about. What are you talking about?’”
“When you find that life partner, that missing piece you didn’t know what was missing… it’s like, ‘Golly, you can go ahead and kill me if this ever goes away or ends or something happens. There’s no going back now,’” pointed out the musician.
“I miss the people. I mean, those people became like family to me, literally from the crew all up to the producers of the show. I was with them more than I was with my family… I miss that. But the job itself, I don’t miss,” explained the musician.
Blake dished, “I totally needed a break from that, because if I wasn’t into it then it wasn’t good for whoever was on my team.” “The second I started feeling like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t even remember what season this is anymore. Who are the coaches on this season?’ [I knew that] I needed [to get] away from here,” he added.
She had just welcomed her son Apollo, whom she shares with her former husband Gavin Rossdale. Alongside Apollo, Stefani was also managing her role as a mother to her two teenage sons. This period marked significant transitions for Stefani, both in her personal life and her career, as joining “The Voice” was a new venture for her as well.
Shelton’s reflection on their initial meeting and the subsequent development of their relationship offers an intriguing look into their private lives, a side often shielded from the public eye. Over time, their friendship blossomed into a romance, defying Shelton’s initial perceptions and leading to a deep, committed partnership.
This story of unexpected love highlights how professional interactions can sometimes lead to personal connections, transforming initial impressions into lasting bonds. Furthermore, in the same interview where he discussed his relationship with Stefani, Shelton also spoke about another significant change in his life—his departure from “The Voice.”
After 23 seasons on the show, Shelton decided to step back, marking the end of an era for him professionally. His exit from the show is not just a career decision but also a personal one, as it reflects his readiness to prioritize other aspects of his life, perhaps focusing more on his family and personal pursuits.
Blake Shelton’s revelations provide a glimpse into the complexities of life as a public figure and the personal decisions that are often influenced by their public roles. His story, intertwined with Gwen Stefani’s, showcases a blend of personal evolution, professional decisions, and the serendipitous nature of relationships.
It underscores how initial perceptions can be transformed and how life paths can shift unexpectedly, leading to new and enriching phases of life. Shelton’s decision to leave “The Voice” after so many seasons also opens up discussions about the impacts of long-term commitments in show business on personal growth and family life, adding another layer to the narrative of his and Stefani’s journey together.
