Eric Roberts Shocks Fans with Apology to Sister Julia Roberts After Explosive ‘Abuse’ Confession
Eric Roberts is taking steps to reconcile with his family, including his sister Julia Roberts and estranged daughter Emma Roberts, through the release of his new memoir, Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far. The Oscar-nominated actor, now 68, opens up about his turbulent career, struggles with addiction, and the strained relationships within his family.
In the memoir, Eric reflects on the highs and lows of his life, including his complicated relationship with Julia, which has spanned over four decades. He candidly addresses the challenges he faced, from early success in Hollywood films like King of the Gypsies and Runaway Train (for which he earned an Oscar nomination) to the personal setbacks caused by his drug addiction.
Eric acknowledges the impact his behavior had on his sisters, Julia and Lisa Roberts. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they suffered from PTSD from when it was dangerous to be around me,” he admits, highlighting the pain he caused during his years of addiction, told People.
One of the most emotional moments in the memoir comes when Eric publicly apologizes to Julia for past hurtful comments. “I hope Julia will accept this public apology. It was an asinine thing to have said,” he writes, referring to a previous remark where he claimed, “If it wasn’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts.”
Eric also reflects on the custody battle over his daughter, Emma, which Julia supported. Despite the personal loss, he now recognizes that Julia’s decision was the right one.
“I imagine I will remain as Julia’s brother and Emma Roberts’ dad for the rest of my life,” Eric concludes, expressing his hope to heal the rift and rebuild his family relationships. His memoir offers a raw and vulnerable account of his struggles and the impact they’ve had on those closest to him while seeking a path toward reconciliation.
