SNL Star Kenan Thompson Officially Files For Divorce After Splitting From His Wife After 11 Years
Kenan Thompson has filed for divorce.
While Kenan Thompson will not be leaving Saturday Night Live anytime soon, another chapter of his life is coming to an end. Thompson and his wife Christina Evangeline are officially divorcing one month after their breakup was initially revealed in April 2022.
Kenan Thompson has filed for divorce from his wife, model-turned-interior designer Christina Evangeline, according to TMZ. The SNL star has now made measures to start legal proceedings to end their marriage ties, showing that the separation process wasn’t enough to resolve their relationship troubles. He apparently filed the required paperwork and is trying to renegotiate a custody agreement with his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Despite the fact that the couple has supposedly been apart for some time, TMZ confirmed that there is relatively no bad blood between them. Kenan Thompson temporarily relocated to Los Angeles to film his show Kenan, while Christina Evangeline remained in New York. They “simply grew apart.”
It’s unknown how long they’d been separated formally or informally when the Nickelodeon vet filed the divorce papers, but according to TMZ, they’ve been apart for at least a year and the formal process is only now taking shape.
Kenan Thompson and Christina Evangeline got married at the Georgia Aquarium in 2011 after reportedly dating for four years. Georgia, 7, and Gianna, 3, were born to them over the course of roughly 15 years of marriage.
According to TMZ’s sources, Thompson and Evangeline are ‘living close to one another’ in New York to make co-parenting easier. They are said to have reached an agreement on an even custody arrangement in which their children will spend 50 percent of their time with each parent, though this has yet to be legally approved.
Kenan Thompson rose to prominence on Nickelodeon’s All That and Kenan & Kel before joining the Saturday Night Live cast in 2003. Since then, he has been the longest-serving cast member on NBC’s legendary late-night show.
Thompson has worked at Studio 8H for nearly two decades, starring in regular routines such as “What’s Up With That,” “Black Jeopardy,” “Scared Straight,” and “What’s Wrong with This Picture?”
Kenan Thompson’s devotion has paid off: as of March 2022, he had appeared in almost 1,500 Saturday Night Live sketches. That doesn’t mean he’ll be going anywhere soon. Kenan Thompson has expressed his intention to stay on the program for the time being, telling Entertainment Tonight that he’d like to make it to the 50th season, so he’ll be on Saturday evenings for at least three more years.
The sketch show’s most recent season concluded in May, but if you have a Hulu or Peacock membership, you can watch Kenan Thompson on earlier episodes of Saturday Night Live. If you’re already up to date, you may plan your summer viewing experience by looking at our 2022 TV premiere schedule.
