Tori Spelling Shocks Fans by Calling Ex Dean McDermott Her ‘Biggest Support’ Post-Split

Tori Spelling revealed that despite her divorce from Dean McDermott last year, the two remain close friends. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the actress and author shared that McDermott is still her “biggest support” even after their separation.
“We’re really amicable,” Spelling explained. “I know in Hollywood people think divorces have to be ugly, but ours is not. We co-parent really well, we’re good friends, and he’s one of my biggest supporters.” The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum and McDermott share five children, and Spelling opened up about the challenges of balancing work and personal life.
Admitting that managing both isn’t easy, Spelling said, “But hey, we all do it. My kids are really supportive.” She noted that her older children often help care for their younger siblings, creating a “built-in kind of community” in their household. “It’s like a little team effort, and it really helps,” she added.
Reflecting on her time on Dancing with the Stars, Spelling called being away from her children “the hardest” part. Although she cherished the experience, the time apart was challenging. Following her elimination from the competition on September 24, she’s now back to her full-time role as a mom. “They’re glad I can be their Uber driver and pick them up at all times now. I don’t have to go to dance,” she joked.
Spelling also shared the sweet messages she received from her children on the night of her elimination. “They were just like, ‘We know this is a big fear, and you stepped out of your comfort zone. You’re such an example for us, and you can do anything you want to do, and it makes us believe so can we,’” she recalled, clearly touched by their support.
Despite the end of her Dancing with the Stars journey, Spelling seems content being back in her daily routine with her kids, while maintaining a positive and supportive relationship with McDermott. As she focuses on family life, she’s grateful for the love and encouragement surrounding her, showing that amicable divorces—and co-parenting success—are very much possible.
