DDG Fires Back at Halle Bailey After Heated Clash Over Son’s Safety
Rapper DDG, born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., recently addressed his ex-partner Halle Bailey’s concerns about their son, Halo, being shown in a livestream. Bailey, who was upset that Halo appeared on screen during a Twitch event without her knowledge, had publicly expressed her frustration, which led DDG to step forward in her defense.
On Thursday, November 7, DDG posted a video promoting his upcoming song What U Bad For, during which he also responded to the ongoing situation. In the video, the 27-year-old rapper spoke up for Bailey, explaining that he doesn’t tolerate any negative comments about her, regardless of differing opinions on her reaction. “One thing I don’t like is when people hate on Halle,” he said. “I don’t care if people think she’s wrong or not or if I think she’s wrong or right.”
DDG, who shares 9-month-old Halo with Bailey, expressed empathy for her feelings as a mother. He reflected on his own challenges with public scrutiny and acknowledged that Bailey may be dealing with mental and emotional complexities post-motherhood that he may not fully understand. “She could be going through something mentally after having a kid that I can’t understand as a man,” he said. “So, when situations like this happen, I try to handle it with as much grace as possible because Halo needs her, , per People magazine.
Emphasizing his commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment for their son, DDG added, “I need her, we need each other to create a childhood that’s safe, fun, and memorable for him.” He also referred to Halo as “the biggest blessing” in his life and expressed “unconditional love and respect” for Bailey, showing his support for her role as Halo’s mother and protector.
Bailey’s initial reaction followed the November 6 Marathon 2 Twitch event, where DDG briefly brought Halo on camera during a live stream hosted by Kai Cenat. The footage quickly circulated online, sparking Bailey’s concern over her son’s public exposure. “I wasn’t told or notified, and I am extremely upset to have my baby in front of millions of people,” she wrote. “I am his mother and protector, and I’m saddened that I wasn’t notified, especially when I am out of town.”
The following day, before DDG could respond, Bailey clarified her stance on social media, acknowledging her initial reaction may have been too strong. “Yesterday, maybe I did overreact and shouldn’t have brought it here,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I know that Halo is always safe with his dad.” She also extended thanks to Kai Cenat for his care toward Halo.
This exchange between DDG and Bailey reflects the complexities of co-parenting in the public eye, especially when it comes to maintaining boundaries around their son’s privacy. While Bailey voiced her concerns as a protective mother, DDG’s response highlighted his respect for her feelings and his commitment to fostering a positive co-parenting relationship focused on Halo’s well-being.
