Ellen DeGeneres is going to talk about the final comedy with Netflix
Ellen DeGeneres is returning to the stage for one final comedy special. According to Variety, six years after her last comedy hour “Relatable,” DeGeneres is set to come back to Netflix for her final stand-up special.
The special, slated for release later in 2024, will be produced by Ben Winston and Fulwell73 and marks her second stand-up special for Netflix. In addition to the Netflix special, DeGeneres will embark on a multi-city stand-up tour beginning June 19 in San Diego.
Addressing her audience, DeGeneres said, “To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life.”
“There is nobody quite like Ellen. She is a true legend and pioneer in so many ways. We can’t wait to bring fans another one of her hilarious comedy specials later this year,” said Robbie Praw, VP of stand-up and comedy formats at Netflix about the comics special.
DeGeneres’s statement likely refers to her controversial exit from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2022, which followed allegations of a hostile work environment, including harassment by senior producers.
The allegations led to an internal WarnerMedia investigation and a BuzzFeed News report, after which DeGeneres publicly apologized to her employees and took responsibility for the workplace culture. Consequently, three show executives were dismissed.
With her final comedy special and tour, DeGeneres seems poised to address these issues directly, offering her audience insight into her experiences and personal reflections on her career and the events leading to her show’s end.
This return to stand-up marks a significant moment for the legendary talk show host and comedian, providing a platform for her to close this chapter of her career on her own terms.
