For the fourth consecutive week, kids comedy The Smurfs held the No. 1 spot around the world, adding another $23.3The smurfs stay on top million from 71 markets.

The animated/live-action film in 3D, starring Neil Patrick Harris and Katy Perry’s voice as Smurfette, included No. 1 debuts in Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, Finland, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Smurfs, based on Belgian cartoonist Peyo’s little blue cartoon creatures, has made a total of $295.8 million internationally — nearly two-and-a-half times more than in North America.

Staying in second place is Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starring James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis. The prequel in the franchise took $19.3 million from 52 markets, with No. 1 openings in five Latin America markets including Mexico with a sizable $5.2 million.

The remake has reached $345.1 million worldwide and is scheduled to make more when it opens in Italy later in September and in Japan in October.

In the No. 3 spot again, Final Destination 5 grabbed $18.7 million in 35 territories. The horror series debuted at No. 1 in France with $4.7 million and remained on top in Russia with $3.6 million. The worldwide total is close to $100 million and releases in South Korea next week.

In the fourth spot is Cowboys & Aliens, costarring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford earning $9 million from in 46 countries, with Spain’s No. 1 debut delivering another $2.1 million. The sci-fi western expands to Brazil, Finland and Norway next week.

Ranking in fifth place is the comedy Horrible Bosses, with Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey and Colin Farrell, which generated $8.1 million in 52 markets.

The Help, which won the North American box office for the fourth week in a row opened in Australia at No. 3 and also in France this past weekend. It will release in Denmark, Sweden and Hong Kong later this month with other markets rolling out through 2012.

Other notable openings included Shark Night 3D, a horror thriller ranking at No. 2 in Russia and The Three Musketeers, the latest adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel starring Milla Jovovich and Christoph Walz, which debuted at No. 1 in Germany with $3 million.
