Heidi Klum Finds Joy in Passing Down Her Clothes to Daughters, Encourages Sustainable Fashion
At the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards on November 6, Heidi Klum expressed her excitement about passing down her wardrobe to her daughters, especially her 20-year-old daughter, Leni. Speaking with People Magazine at the event in Cape Town, the 51-year-old model shared how proud she feels to see her daughters embracing her fashion choices and promoting sustainability by re-wearing her clothes.
“I get so excited when I see my daughters re-wearing my clothes,” Klum said. “My eldest daughter also is a model, and she goes to events. When she wears my clothes, I’m not just proud—we’re also upcycling.” Klum’s delight in sharing her wardrobe reflects her dedication to sustainable practices in fashion, a theme she promoted throughout the evening.
Klum, who has been known for her iconic style, emphasized the importance of giving clothes a second life. “I’m passing clothes down to my kids,” she continued, advocating for a more sustainable approach to fashion that reduces waste. By sharing her wardrobe with her daughters, Klum not only creates lasting memories but also encourages a culture of reusing cherished pieces.
She took the opportunity to urge others to adopt a similar mindset, highlighting the environmental impact of fast fashion. “I think it’s so important to keep wearing your things,” Klum noted. “In the past, we’d wear something once and then never wear it again, and it’s so wrong to do.” Her message is clear: instead of constantly buying new, we should cherish and repurpose the items we already own.
On the Earthshot green carpet, Klum made a final appeal for sustainable fashion, reminding everyone of the treasures hidden in their own closets. “I urge everyone to wear the amazing things that you have in the closet. It’s the best shop—your own closet,” she said.
With her commitment to passing down her clothes to her daughters and her encouragement to rethink how we use our wardrobes, Klum is setting a powerful example of sustainable fashion that emphasizes reuse, family connections, and a more mindful approach to style.
