Jada Pinkett Smith has unveiled a surprising past incident involving Chris Rock in her new book “Worthy,” where Rock asked her out amid persistent divorce rumors concerning her and her husband Will Smith.

In a conversation with PEOPLE magazine, Pinkett Smith recounted how Rock misinterpreted ongoing rumors as fact, believing that she and Will were on the brink of divorce. Jada stated, “I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce.”

During one particular summer, Rock approached her, expressing his interest in taking her out, under the assumption that she was available. However, once Jada clarified that the circulating stories were mere speculation, Rock was reportedly “appalled” and extended his apologies.

Pinkett Smith also touched upon her and Rock’s somewhat complicated history. She brought up the 2016 Oscars, during which she supported the #OscarsSoWhite movement while Rock was the host. She reflected on whether miscommunications might have been avoided, saying, “The one thing that I think about is that call.” Both apologized to each other and seemingly moved past the incident.

Yet, this was not the end of their public entanglements. At the 2022 Oscars, where Will Smith slapped Rock onstage following a joke about Jada, she mentioned an attempt by Rock to apologize. Despite the turbulent exchange, Jada expressed a desire for reconciliation and “peace” among all parties involved. Although Jada hasn’t spoken to Rock since the infamous Oscars incident, she hopes that all misunderstandings can eventually be resolved.
