Nigel Lythgoe, the longstanding producer of American Idol, is facing serious allegations from former judge Paula Abdul, who has come forward with claims of sexual assault. In the legal filing, Abdul alleges that during the early seasons of American Idol, Lythgoe assaulted her in an elevator. These vehemently denied accusations have triggered legal battles and drawn widespread public attention, casting a shadow over the entertainment industry.

In a recent discussion with TMZ, Lythgoe refuted Abdul’s sexual assault claims, categorizing them as “false” and “deeply offensive.” He expressed his intention to prove his innocence in court.

Lythgoe went on to emphasize the platonic nature of his relationship with Abdul, stating, “Paula and I have interacted as dear friends, and entirely platonic.” Expressing shock and dismay at the allegations, he said, “To say that I am shocked and saddened by the allegations made against me by Paula Abdul is a wild understatement.”

Responding to Abdul’s accusations of being pushed against a wall and touched inappropriately, Lythgoe said, “Yesterday, however, out of the blue, I learned of these claims in the press, and I want to be clear: not only are they false, they are deeply offensive to me and to everything I stand for.”

Lythgoe expressed disbelief at Abdul’s decision to file what he perceives as a baseless lawsuit, highlighting her known history of erratic behavior. He pledged to vigorously defend himself against what he deemed an “appalling smear,” saying, “While Paula’s history of erratic behavior is well known, I can’t pretend to understand exactly why she would file a lawsuit that she must know is untrue. But I can promise that I will fight this appalling smear with everything I have.”

The alleged incident in the elevator occurred several years ago, and later, Abdul became a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, a show produced by Lythgoe. According to the lawsuit, Lythgoe invited Abdul to his home for dinner under the guise of a professional meeting, during which she claims he attempted to kiss her and suggested they would make a powerful couple.”
