Shakira opens up about finding work life balance after Gerard Pique split
Shakira recently opened up about the complexities of her past relationship with Gerard Pique, particularly highlighting the challenges she faced in achieving a balance between her professional commitments and personal life. During her time with the former Barcelona footballer, the internationally acclaimed singer experienced a turbulent mix of emotions towards her career, describing her connection to her work as a “love-hate” relationship.
This struggle was particularly pronounced given her responsibilities as a mother to their two children, which often left her grappling with feelings of guilt whenever her career required her to spend time away from home. In a revealing conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Shakira delved into the intricacies of her relationship with Pique and its impact on her professional life, reported Us Weekly.
“It was kind of like a sometimes a love-hate relationship because every time I had to be pulled into the studio to do my work, I failed,” she shared. “I felt that I was leaving my family unattended. There were times when I really didn’t enjoy it. You know, I felt guilt. I felt torn,” the singer added. However, things have changed for Shakira, she revealed, adding “Even though, it’s more challenging because now I’m in charge of these two kids, these two babies that depend on me so much.”
“And I’m a single mother, I don’t have a husband at home to help out with anything,” she continued. “In a way, it’s kind of good not to have a husband because that…I don’t know why it was dragging me down, man. “Now I feel like working. I feel like writing songs. I feel like making music. It’s a compulsive need of mine that I didn’t feel before.”
The “Waka Waka” singer expressed how the dynamics of their relationship and the responsibilities of motherhood often made her professional endeavors feel more burdensome, leading to a conflict of interest between her personal desires and professional obligations. Despite these challenges, Shakira has been moving forward with her career and is on the verge of a significant milestone.
She is gearing up for the release of her much-anticipated 12th studio album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which marks her first album release in seven years. Scheduled to drop on March 22, this album signifies a new chapter in Shakira’s life and career, one that she steps into with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity.
Shakira’s journey to balancing her personal life with her career has been a testament to her resilience and dedication. The upcoming album not only represents her return to the music scene after a significant hiatus but also reflects her evolution as an artist and individual.
