Babysitter Allegedly Murders 3-Year-Old Girl With Autism for Vomiting on Herself
In a tragic incident in Michigan, a 30-year-old woman named Iesha Harris has been taken into custody following allegations of causing the death of a 3-year-old girl she was entrusted to care for. The Detroit Police Department, through a statement on Facebook, announced that Harris faces charges of murder and first-degree child abuse.
The young victim, identified as Harmoni Henderson, was under Harris’s supervision on March 17, as reported by WDIV. It has come to light that Harris shared a friendship with Harmoni’s mother, which adds a layer of betrayal to the already heart-wrenching situation.
A GoFundMe page set up in Harmoni’s memory paints a picture of a child brimming with joy, known for her infectious smile and laughter, a stark contrast to the circumstances leading to her untimely demise. Disturbing details have emerged, suggesting a grave lapse in judgment by Harris.
According to accounts from Harmoni’s parents relayed by WJBK, there was an instance where Harris secluded Harmoni and her 1-year-old child in a bedroom for an extended period, purportedly to consume cannabis with an acquaintance. The situation took a dire turn when Harris, upon noticing that Harmoni had vomited on herself, reacted with anger.
Further exacerbating the situation, Harris allegedly confessed to law enforcement officials that in a fit of rage, she subjected Harmoni to severe physical abuse. Jennifer Douglas, an assistant prosecutor for Wayne County, detailed to WDIV that Harris is accused of pouring boiling water on the young girl and inflicting a violent blow to her head against the bathtub.
The following morning, Harmoni’s mother, Paris England, was met with a horrifying scene as she found her daughter lifeless, a moment that she recounts with profound sorrow, stating to WJBK that her daughter “was gone” upon her arrival. Harmoni was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where her death was confirmed.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office attributed her death to blunt force trauma, underscoring the brutality of the assault. England shared with WDIV that Harmoni faced challenges related to her autism and nonverbal condition, speculating that Harris’s frustration with Harmoni and her own child might have precipitated the violent outburst.
As the community grapples with this devastating loss, Harmoni’s father, Marquise Henderson, expressed his profound grief to WJBK, lamenting the exhaustion of his tears through the intense mourning. Legal representation for Harris has not been disclosed in court documents, leaving many questions unanswered as the case unfolds.
