Family Seeks Justice After Father of Two Shot in the Head While Napping
The family of a father of two is speaking out after he was shot in the head while napping at home. On Monday, Aug. 5, Run Hua Kuang was asleep at his residence in East Oakland, Calif., when a “bullet came flying through a wall, penetrated the headboard, and went straight through his head and out his left eye,” according to a GoFundMe page created by Kuang’s sister, Jasmine Kuang.
Kuang had just finished his job as a delivery truck driver and went home to rest. He lives with his wife of seven years, their 7-month-old and 3-year-old daughters, and his parents. Fortunately, no one else in the home was injured, as reported by The Mercury News. After the shooting, Kuang underwent a seven-hour surgery and is currently in the ICU on life support, “fighting for his life,” according to the fundraising page.
The Oakland Housing Authority Police Department is investigating the incident and has been in contact with Kuang’s family, providing support and services, reported The Mercury News. However, the circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear. No arrests have been made, and information about a potential suspect has not been released.
The GoFundMe campaign, which has received over 1,900 donations and raised more than $141,000 of its $200,000 goal, states that the shooting has left Kuang’s “entire family traumatized and in deep distress.” “This tragedy has created a severe financial burden for our family. Furthermore, Hua’s absence is even more of a hardship and struggle since he is the only one who can speak limited English and take care of the responsibilities and communications for the household,” the campaign notes.
Kuang, who immigrated to the U.S. from Taishan, China, in 2005, is described as the sole provider for his family. His life is characterized by discipline and devotion as a husband, father, and son. The family’s plea for help extends beyond financial support. They are asking for prayers and community solidarity as they navigate this incredibly challenging time. “We are keeping Hua in our prayers for a miracle,” the campaign adds, highlighting the family’s hope for his recovery and the need for community support during this difficult time.
Kuang’s story has resonated with many, drawing attention to the need for greater safety and community vigilance. Local authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in ensuring justice.
As the investigation continues, the Kuang family remains hopeful for Hua’s recovery while grappling with the emotional and financial impacts of this tragic event. The outpouring of support from the community has been a source of strength for them, but they continue to seek justice and answers for the senseless act of violence that has changed their lives forever
