Tragic Crash Claims Life of Mum and 6-Year-Old Daughter—She Was ‘Everyone’s Biggest Cheerleader’
A nursery has shared an emotional tribute to a beloved mum-of-three, Rebecca Hill, who tragically lost her life alongside her 6-year-old daughter, Arianna Aliu, in a horrific crash in Scotland. The accident occurred last month on the A76, near the junction with the B713 south of Kilmarnock. Despite medics rushing to the scene, Arianna sadly died there, while Rebecca was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she later passed away.
Rebecca’s workplace, Onthank Early Childhood Centre in Kilmarnock, expressed their grief and admiration for her in a moving statement, describing her as a “selfless and genuine person” and a “beautiful” mother.
In their tribute on social media, the centre wrote: “As you will know, we recently lost our much-loved friend, colleague, and key worker Rebecca (or ‘Becca’ as some of the children called her) and her precious 6-year-old daughter, Arianna. Rebecca was such a kind, caring, and nurturing soul who was well-loved by the staff and children in her care.”
They continued, highlighting Rebecca’s dedication to her work: “Rebecca was an extremely hard worker and took a great deal of time and effort to write the perfect Learning Journals week after week so parents and families could also share the joy and pride she felt in the children she worked closely with. Rebecca was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.”
The centre also reflected on her close bonds with colleagues, stating, “Rebecca was not only a colleague but a friend to all. Always there to provide support and encouragement with a smile on her face, nothing was ever a bother. She was a very selfless and genuine person, and she is already greatly missed within the playrooms and corridors of Onthank ECC.”
They further expressed their appreciation for the support they have received: “We’d like to thank the local community for the beautiful flowers, gifts, and cards. It’s been greatly appreciated during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. We will never forget Rebecca; she will always be a part of Team Onthank.”
Rebecca’s partner and Arianna’s father, Mensur Aliu, expressed his heartbreak, stating he was “broken deep down” by the loss. He thanked loved ones for their support and pledged to “be the strongest man” for their other daughters.
Rebecca’s sister, Aimee, also shared her grief, describing her as “the best mum there ever was” and expressing the depth of her sorrow, saying, “I would do anything to trade places with them or to have one more sleepover with my darling girl.”
The crash, which occurred between Catrine and Auchinleck on September 26, involved a white VW Passat, according to the Daily Record. Inspector Kenny Malaney of the local police stated, “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or was in the area at the time to contact us.” He urged those with dashcam footage of the vehicle prior to the crash to contact authorities at 101, quoting incident 2596 of September 24, 2024.
