“Shut His Big Fat Mouth” Conor McGregor’s Journey from Trump Critic to Supporter
While Donald Trump has the backing of UFC director Dana White, former UFC star Conor McGregor once had harsh words for the Republican leader. In 2015, when asked about Trump trash-talking wrestler Ronda Rousey, McGregor bluntly responded, “I don’t give a f**k.” However, five years later, McGregor experienced a complete change of heart.
Reflecting on Rousey’s defeat to Holly Holm, the then 78-year-old Trump took to X (formerly Twitter) and voiced, “Glad to see that @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night. Was soundly beaten – not a nice person!” McGregor, the 36-year-old former Featherweight and Lightweight Champion condemned Trump’s remark. According to X17 Online, he stated, “It’s easy for someone that’s not in there to comment, but it’s different when you’re in there, the emotions are high.
Donald Trump can shut his big fat mouth, I don’t give a f**k about Donald Trump.” He added, “Ronda will be back. Defeat is the secret ingredient to success, and true champions can conquer it, overcome it, and come back. So I wish her all the best.” By 2020, McGregor’s view of Trump had shifted dramatically. He publicly declared his support for Trump, calling him the “USA G.O.A.T.”
The Irishman responded to a tweet by the former president celebrating the third anniversary of his inauguration. Trump posted, “It was exactly three years ago today, January 20, 2017, that I was sworn into office. So appropriate that today is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day.” McGregor replied, “Phenomenal President. Quite possibly the USA [G.O.A.T emoji]. Most certainly one of them anyway, as he sits atop the shoulders of many amazing giants that came before him.
No easy feat. Early stages of [the] term also. Incredible.” Trump reciprocated the admiration, congratulating McGregor on his win with a tweet, “Congratulations on your big @UFC WIN!” The reasons behind McGregor’s change of heart remain unclear, but it is evident that the 2024 presidential hopeful now has McGregor’s full support for a second term in the White House. Following a potential assassination attempt, McGregor admired Trump’s resilience in continuing his re-election bid and maintaining his schedule.
McGregor expressed his admiration for X, writing, “A 78-year-old multiple billionaire…he should be on a yacht on the med touring golf courses. But he is not. He is in Pennsylvania spitting out bullets! Running for the love of his country! Godspeed Donald! God bless the United States,” as reported by the Daily Mail. UFC director Dana White, an outspoken Trump fan, also expressed his support by posting a photo of Trump from the incident on Instagram, stating, “I am absolutely SICK to my stomach and in complete shock. He is the toughest, most resilient, AMERICAN BADA** on this planet.”
