Donald Trump Was ‘Taken Aback’ by How Quickly Melania’s Pregnancy Happened

Being the son of one of the wealthiest men in history and a former President of the United States, Barron Trump was born into a life of immense privilege and public scrutiny. Yet, the story of his arrival was marked by an unexpected twist that caught even his famous father by surprise.
In 2006, Melania Trump recounted the moment she told her husband, Donald Trump, that they were going to have a child. “He came home one day, and I told him he’d be a daddy,” she shared with PEOPLE. “And his reaction was … at first he needed to take it in. It was a real surprise. And then he was very happy.”
For Donald, the news of impending fatherhood was met with mixed emotions. Reflecting on that time, he explained, “I expected we were going to have children, so I wasn’t totally surprised. But I was surprised by the speed of it. It happened very quickly.” The realization that he would be a father again came as a shock, but it wasn’t long before excitement took over, per Newsweek.
Donald, who already had four children from his previous marriages, found renewed joy in the prospect of fatherhood. “I love to feed the baby,” he revealed in the same interview. “Not because I have to, but just because I love it. A lot of times early in the morning I’ll take care of him.” However, he admitted that diaper duty wasn’t on his agenda, leaving that task to Melania. “Over the years I have changed more than a diaper, but not on Barron,” Trump confessed. Melania, ever the hands-on mother, claimed responsibility, adding, “That’s my job.”
The couple, content with their life and their son, decided not to have more children. By 2013, Melania told ABC News, “I don’t like to say never, but my life is very busy. We are happy and my hands are full with my two boys — my big boy and my little boy!” Melania’s pregnancy had been a source of pride for her, even gracing the cover of Vogue while seven months pregnant. “I think it’s very sexy for a woman to be pregnant. I think it’s beautiful, carrying a baby inside,” she said.
Donald, known for his controversial humor, couldn’t resist making a remark during Melania’s pregnancy. On the Howard Stern Show in 2005, he commented on her changing body, saying, “You know, they just blow up, right? Like a blimp — in the right places. In her case, the right places. I mean she really has become a monster — in all the right places. I mean Monster most positively. She has gotten very, very large — in all the right places.”
The journey to Barron’s arrival may have been unexpected, but it quickly became a cherished chapter in the Trump family’s life, filled with the joy and challenges that come with raising a child under the spotlight.
