Sen. John Fetterman may be known for his casual attire, but he’s ready to gear up in support of President Joe Biden. “I’m showing up with brass knuckles,” Fetterman told Huffington Post political reporter Jennifer Bendery on Wednesday. “I’m not going to advise the president on anything other than, ‘Stay in. You’re our guy. And I have your back.'”

Fetterman’s comments come ahead of a Thursday meeting between top Biden aides and Democratic Senators concerned about Biden’s ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. These concerns have been amplified by Biden’s poor debate performance and calls from prominent figures, including the New York Times editorial board and Hollywood stars like George Clooney, for Biden to step aside.

Despite the criticism, Biden has firmly refused to drop out, arguing that one bad debate performance cannot overshadow his administration’s accomplishments. Voters, politicians, and even a former Trump administration member continue to express their support for Biden, noting that the same concerns about age and capability could apply to the 78-year-old Trump.

Trump has also made remarks that raised questions about his mental faculties but has not faced similar editorial demands to stand down. The New York Times, while condemning Biden, acknowledged in a follow-up that they believe Trump is also unfit to run.

Bendery questioned several Senators about their stance on Biden’s candidacy, receiving a range of responses, none as emphatic as Fetterman’s. “I still believe he can win this election,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) told Bendery. “I think we should give voters maybe more credit than we’re giving them…Their opinion about a person doesn’t turn on one performance.”

When Bendery asked Sen. Cory Booker about his feelings on Biden staying on as the party’s presidential nominee, he replied, “I have very strong feelings that Fetterman rocks.” As the debate over Biden’s candidacy continues, Fetterman’s unwavering support stands out, signaling a readiness to defend the president against any detractors.
