Hillary Clinton Admits She ‘Teared Up’ After Trump’s Conviction
Hillary Clinton has been actively promoting her latest book, Something Lost, Something Gained: Reflections on Life, Love, and Liberty, which reflects on her personal and political career. In the book, Clinton opens up about her desire to become the first female president of the United States and the ongoing difficulty she faces accepting her 2016 defeat.
“Since 2016, people have asked me, ‘Will you ever be able to move on?’ Move on? I wish!” she writes. Clinton admitted she became emotional when her 2016 opponent, Donald Trump, was found guilty in the hush money trial. “I did get a little teary-eyed because I thought, ‘Wow, no one is above the law,'” she said.
According to The Daily Mail, Clinton shared that she had turned off her phone on the day of Trump’s conviction while focusing on editing her book. When she checked her phone later, she found it “blowing up” with messages from people she hadn’t heard from in years.
“I quickly read that he had been convicted of 34 felony counts for interfering in the 2016 election,” she explained, linking the trial to election interference. “Hush money was a means to prevent information from being made public that might have affected the vote. So it was election interference.”
During an interview with Katie Couric in Washington, D.C., Clinton reflected on the trial’s outcome, saying, “To see that a jury of his peers in New York had found him guilty was reassuring about our system.” She expressed her relief at finally seeing Trump held accountable: “This man has escaped accountability his entire life.”
Clinton also criticized Trump’s rhetoric, particularly his reaction to an alleged second assassination attempt. In an interview with CBS News, Clinton noted that instead of calming tensions, Trump used the event to attack his political opponents. “If he were really a leader, he should be doing what he can to calm the waters,” she said.
“Not just continue to throw red meat out there to get people riled up.” When Couric read Trump’s tweet, blaming “Communist Left Rhetoric” for escalating violence, Clinton called Trump’s response “incredible.” She lamented his focus on himself rather than addressing the nation’s needs. “Everything that he talks about is about himself,” she said. “He’s not interested in representing all of America and all Americans. This is just another really regrettable incident of that.”
