Marjorie Taylor Greene Declares Trump’s ‘Third’ Presidential Win, Sparking Debate on Social Media
Following Donald Trump’s projected victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) stirred controversy by proclaiming it Trump’s “third” presidential win. Greene took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate, sharing a photo of herself in front of a Fox News broadcast declaring Trump’s lead and writing, “Donald Trump has just been elected President for a THIRD time.”
Greene’s statement quickly ignited a wave of reactions on social media, with critics and supporters alike weighing in. Many pointed out the factual inaccuracy, as Trump’s only official win prior to 2024 was in 2016. One user questioned, “Elected president for a 3rd time? Where is this strange counting from?” while another remarked, “When was the second time?” Others took a more mocking tone, with comments like “Counting: Not your strength” and “Counting, reading, thinking… none of those are her strengths.”
On the other side, Trump supporters rallied behind Greene’s sentiment, interpreting her “third win” as a nod to the belief that the 2020 election was “stolen” from Trump. One user wrote, “We are ready to go! They stole it in 2020, but we made it too big for them to rig this time!” Another echoed, “Yes, 3rd time! They stole the second one!” Greene, who won her own third term this election, also received congratulatory messages from her supporters, including actress and comedian Roseanne Barr.
Other prominent Trump allies joined the online celebration. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Co.), recently re-elected in a new Colorado district, shared her excitement on X, stating, “Third time’s a charm.” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) also chimed in, posting a clip of Trump’s victory speech captioned, “Your President,” in which Trump praised his campaign as the “greatest political movement of all time.”
Greene’s “third-time” remark stems from her ongoing support of Trump’s baseless claims that the 2020 election was rigged against him. Since Trump’s 2020 loss, Greene has been a vocal proponent of election fraud theories, frequently suggesting that Trump was the rightful winner of that election. During the 2020 post-election period, she was outspoken on social media, tweeting messages like “We aren’t going to let Democrats STEAL this election” and “Stop the steal!” Despite platform warnings and fact-check labels, Greene repeatedly promoted claims of voter fraud, using the term “fraud” extensively, as PolitiFact documented.
In one instance, Greene alleged that without supposed fraud, non-resident voters, mail-in ballots from deceased individuals, and hidden ballots, Trump would have won Georgia in a “landslide.” Twitter eventually suspended her account temporarily for spreading misinformation, but Greene continued to double down on her statements across various media.
Greene was also among those who defended Trump’s stance on the events of January 6, calling the incident a reaction to what she described as “the biggest electoral fraud in history.” She has framed January 6 as a protest against alleged election irregularities, despite confirmations from multiple election officials that no evidence supports claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
As the conversation around Trump’s win and Greene’s “third term” remarks continues, the exchange highlights the persistent divide in perspectives on election legitimacy. While Greene’s statements resonate with those who believe the 2020 election was flawed, her post has sparked renewed debate and scrutiny, as election officials and fact-checkers maintain that no credible evidence exists to substantiate claims of significant fraud in 2020, reported Newsweek.
