“Kamala Harris Made Him Unravel”: Mary Trump Praises VP for Rattling Donald Trump in Debate
Donald Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, praised Vice President Kamala Harris for her sharp performance during the debate in Philadelphia, saying she did exactly what was needed to throw her uncle off balance and cause him to “unravel.”
Appearing on Anderson Cooper 360 on Wednesday night, Mary Trump called her uncle’s debate performance “incredibly validating” and explained that Harris’s ability to get under Trump’s skin was a key tactic. “That was the thing that she did so brilliantly,” Mary Trump noted. “Vice President Harris gave both substantive answers to help the American people get to know her and her vision for the country while going straight at Donald’s vulnerabilities.”
According to Mary Trump, Harris inflicted a “narcissistic injury” on Donald Trump in the opening minutes of the debate, which set the tone for the rest of the night. “It accomplished exactly what it needed to do: make him unravel,” she said. “He couldn’t recover, and honestly, he’s not going to.”
Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist who has been a vocal critic of her uncle, suggested that Donald Trump hasn’t matured emotionally beyond his childhood self. In her book, Too Much and Never Enough, she recalls her uncle as a bully who tormented his younger brother Robert and showed “nothing but disdain for everybody else, including, and perhaps especially, his mother.”
During her interview with Cooper, Mary Trump emphasized that this characterization remains accurate today. “That’s still who he is,” she said. When asked if she views her uncle as the same person she knew growing up, Mary Trump responded, “Absolutely.”
She also described Donald Trump as a “thin-skinned bully” who lashed out at those weaker than him but would retreat when confronted. “He had a reputation for beating up on younger kids, but ran home in a fit of rage as soon as somebody stood up to him,” she said. This, she believes, is one of the most concerning aspects of her uncle’s personality and what makes him “most unfit” for leadership.
Mary Trump’s insights into her uncle’s behavior, both past and present, provided a unique perspective on his debate performance, highlighting the effectiveness of Harris’s strategy in rattling him.
