Mary Trump, the estranged niece of former President Donald Trump, recently shared insights into what she believes is troubling her uncle during his ongoing legal battles. In an interview with CNN, Mary pointed out that Donald Trump’s greatest concern isn’t just his financial woes but the damage to his carefully crafted image as a successful businessman.

This comes in the wake of a $454 million judgment against him in a civil fraud case filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which accuses Trump and The Trump Organization of inflating assets to secure better business deals. According to Mary, Trump’s obsession is not so much with actual success but with the appearance of it. “It’s not that he needs to be successful, it’s that he needs to be seen as successful,” Mary explained in the interview, as reported by Newsweek.

She suggested that deep down, her uncle knows he’s not the figure he projects to the world. “I think what keeps him up at night, other than a lot of Diet Coke, would be this concern that he doesn’t actually have the money.” Mary also speculated that Trump may not have as much cash on hand as he claims, especially after a New York appellate judge denied his defense team’s request to delay payment of the judgment pending appeal.

“He may not indeed have that much cash, which would reveal, not just to the world but to himself, that he is not as rich as he claims to be,” Mary remarked. This, she argued, could deliver a serious blow to both his public image and his personal sense of identity. “He is not the savvy businessman who’s been portrayed in New York tabloids since the 1980s,” she added, calling this realization a “crushing blow” to Trump’s self-esteem.

The former president’s net worth has long been a topic of speculation, with conflicting reports about the true extent of his wealth. Trump has vehemently denied the court’s ruling in the civil fraud case, claiming his worth far exceeds what was presented in court.

In addition to financial challenges, Trump faces numerous legal battles, including criminal indictments and felony charges at both state and federal levels. Mary Trump believes these legal struggles are taking a toll on her uncle. “I see somebody who’s quite desperate and who is terrified,” she said. “His entire future hinges on his ability to get back into the White House.”
