Mary Trump, psychologist and outspoken critic of her uncle, President-elect Donald Trump, took to X (formerly Twitter) on New Year’s Day to offer advice to those who oppose her uncle as he prepares to return to the Oval Office. Known for her sharp critiques in her bestselling book Too Much and Never Enough, Mary shared her reflections on coping with the ongoing chaos surrounding her uncle’s presidency.

Admitting that the past year had left her emotionally drained and “way too engaged,” Mary Trump emphasized the need for a calmer approach in the face of her uncle’s anticipated return to power. She encouraged her anti-Trump audience to “be more objective about what’s going on,” noting, “Otherwise, it’s brutal when everything feels like a blow. I don’t have to know everything all the time.”

Her advice for those feeling overwhelmed by the upcoming presidency? “Don’t make all of this your life,” she urged, stressing the importance of staying informed without allowing the political climate to consume one’s entire existence, Daily Mail reported.

Reflecting on her uncle’s turbulent presidency, Mary noted the cyclical nature of Donald Trump’s controversies, particularly how his often incendiary posts or actions would trigger overreactions from critics. “Donald would post something absolutely insane, and people would respond with, ‘Finally, he’s losing his mind, and it’s over because he’s crazy’.

And you know, that happened for eight years,” she said. While acknowledging the legitimate concerns over Trump’s behavior, she advised critics to take a breath and avoid reacting as if every moment was the end of the world.

Mary didn’t hold back in her criticism of Trump. She mocked his post-White House years, saying he “failed up so spectacularly” and “did nothing unless you count running for office as a job.” Predicting his behavior in a second term, she claimed Trump would likely spend most of his time at Mar-a-Lago, “raiding the treasury” by charging government officials and staff to stay at his property.

In her commentary, she criticized Trump’s connections, particularly with Elon Musk, calling Musk the “last person who has Donald’s ear” and speculating that his stay at Mar-a-Lago was part of a strategy to maintain influence. On Trump’s Cabinet picks, she jokingly speculated Marco Rubio might be the first to be fired, while she also lambasted Trump’s immigration policies, calling his pick for “border czar,” Tom Homan, a “vicious, vicious thug.”

Mary Trump also criticized her uncle’s revival of ideas like buying Greenland and reclaiming the Panama Canal, suggesting these moves were meant to “normalize the concept for the idiots who follow him” and potentially “soften the ground for Russian expansionism.”

In a pointed moment, Mary expressed hope that President Trump would be uninvited from attending President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, saying, “Tell him he’s a disgrace; we don’t want him there.”
