Melania Trump Faces Backlash Over Food Cost Remarks in Memoir Promotion
Former First Lady Melania Trump has stirred controversy once again, despite her usual efforts to stay out of the spotlight. In a short promotional video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Melania expressed concern over rising food costs since her husband, Donald Trump, left office, sparking criticism from viewers. The 37-second clip, aimed at promoting her memoir, quickly became a subject of ridicule, with many accusing her of being disconnected from reality.
In the video, Melania claims, “The 2020 election results changed our lives forever. It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety, and even the geopolitical landscape.” According to RawStory, the video directs viewers to a website where her memoir is sold, ranging from $40 for a basic edition to $250 for a collector’s edition, which includes a signed copy and additional photographs.
Many users on X were quick to call out her remarks. One user questioned, “When was the last time you paid for food? Stop it.” Another added, “What would you know about truth? You’re married to and support a pathological liar… this book is just another ploy to make money.”
Criticism of the former First Lady also touched on her lavish lifestyle, as highlighted by Daily Beast. Melania resides in a three-story penthouse in Trump Tower, decorated with 24-carat gold and marble. Critics pointed to the contrast between her concerns over food prices and her life of luxury, with one user commenting, “As she looks down from her golden throne, she speaks to the peasants about the price of food.”
The backlash extends beyond this video, as Melania has long been a polarizing figure. Many still remember her infamous “I really don’t care, do you?” jacket, worn during a visit to a migrant detention center in Texas, which cemented her reputation for being tone-deaf.
In the video, Melania also suggested that there are efforts to “silence” her husband, claiming, “It has become increasingly apparent that there are significant challenges to free speech as demonstrated by the efforts to silence my husband.” Despite her efforts to promote her memoir, her remarks have only intensified public scrutiny and criticism.
