Melania Trump Praises Donald Trump for Respecting Her Stance on Abortion Rights
Former First Lady Melania Trump expressed her gratitude towards her husband, former President Donald Trump, for respecting her views on abortion rights during a Sunday interview on Fox News. Speaking with host Maria Bartiromo, Melania defended her stance on reproductive rights, highlighting her belief in women’s autonomy.
“You write it is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference in having children based on their own convictions, free from intervention or pressure from government,” Bartiromo read from Melania’s book. “Had you spoken to President Trump about that before you wrote that in the book?”
“Yes, he knew my position and my beliefs since the day we met,” Melania Trump replied. “And I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body. I think I don’t want government in my personal business. I think it’s very important.”
During the interview, the former first lady clarified that her book, which discusses her stance on abortion, was not intended to be tied to her husband’s current political campaign. She explained that her remarks were written months ago, emphasizing her independence in forming her opinions.
“He knew my beliefs, as I said,” Melania noted. “So he knew it would be in the book. He let me be who I am. And he let me believe what I believe. He let me be my own person, and he respects that.” She further expressed mutual respect in their relationship, stating, “And I respect that as I let him be his own person. He has different beliefs, and he will do what he believes. He will be elected official.”
Melania Trump’s comments underscore her commitment to individual freedom, and her remarks suggest a balance in their relationship despite their differing views on a sensitive issue like reproductive rights. By distancing her book from the political campaign, she aimed to reinforce the idea that her views are personal and not influenced by political motivations.
The interview highlighted the former first lady’s desire to maintain her independence and identity, even in the political sphere. Her praise for Donald Trump for allowing her to express her own beliefs portrays a dynamic in their relationship where both respect each other’s autonomy, even when their views diverge.
