Donald Trump Reportedly Irritated by Melania’s Influence on Barron and Their Slovenian Conversations
Donald Trump is reportedly frustrated by the influence his wife, Melania Trump, has on their son, Barron Trump, particularly when it comes to language. Barron, now 18, has spent most of his life with his mother, largely shielded from the public eye while his father was preoccupied with his business and political endeavors. As a result, Barron has become fluent in his mother’s native language, Slovenian, which reportedly annoys Trump.
According to Mary Jordan, author of The Art of Her Deal, a book on Melania’s life, Barron frequently speaks in Slovenian, even addressing Secret Service agents in the language during their time at the White House. Jordan explained to CBS News, “There’s a unit within the family unit, and it’s Melania, her mother, her father, and Barron. And they all speak Slovenian.”
This language barrier has caused some friction, as neither the Secret Service nor Trump understands Slovenian. Unlike his son, Trump never made an effort to learn his wife’s native language, leading to frustration when he is left out of their conversations. “He has said it annoys him sometimes, ’cause he has no idea what they’re saying,” Jordan added.
Melania, who was born in Slovenia in 1970 and grew up in the small town of Sevnica, married Trump in 2005. Their only child, Barron, was born in 2006. Despite being the youngest of Trump’s five children—Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany—Barron has remained largely out of the public eye, thanks to Melania’s protective nature, as reported by The New York Times.
However, as Barron has grown older and made more public appearances, it has become evident that he is multilingual. In addition to English and Slovenian, Melania has shared that Barron also speaks French. Still, the former First Couple agrees on the importance of speaking English in public. “My opinion is that [the] more languages you speak, better it is, but when you come to America, you speak English,” Melania told PEOPLE.
Recently, a video of a young Barron speaking with a Slovenian accent resurfaced and went viral. A social media user on X, formerly Twitter, posted the clip, noting, “Here’s footage of Barron speaking at the age of 4 – with a Slovenian accent, due to his lack of meaningful interaction with people other than his mother. For his sake, I hope that his father largely remained a background character in his life.”
The video has reignited discussions about the dynamics within the Trump family, particularly the close bond between Melania and Barron, and how it contrasts with Trump’s more distant relationship with his youngest son.
