Rudy Giuliani Reaches Settlement with Georgia Election Workers in Defamation Case

Rudy Giuliani has reportedly reached a “global settlement” with Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, two Georgia election workers he defamed with baseless claims of election interference. Legal analyst and podcast host Andrew Torrez revealed the news Thursday, sharing a letter to Judge Lewis Liman confirming the settlement.

The letter states the agreement “would result in the conclusion of all litigation,” which Torrez interpreted to include both the initial defamation judgment and a subsequent case arising from repeated defamatory statements by Giuliani.

Giuliani, who was previously ordered to pay $146 million in damages to Freeman and Moss, skipped court on Thursday, opting instead to post a photo of a dog at Mar-a-Lago. The former New York City mayor had been selling off personal possessions to cover the substantial judgment.

Torrez offered his analysis of the settlement via Bluesky, highlighting the potential implications. “This means Rudy and his lawyer, Joey Badabing Cammarata, are going to evade further sanctions, contempt orders, and/or bench warrants for their no-show at trial today and continuous disregard of the court’s orders,” he said to NBC News.

While the settlement terms remain confidential, Torrez expressed confidence in Freeman and Moss’s legal team, describing them as “top-notch lawyers” likely to secure the best possible outcome for their clients. Without the settlement, Torrez noted, the women might have faced “years” trying to recover funds from Giuliani’s dwindling assets.

Giuliani’s legal woes stem from his role in spreading falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election. Freeman and Moss, who worked during the Georgia vote count, were subjected to a deluge of harassment after Giuliani falsely accused them of participating in voter fraud. A federal judge last year ruled against Giuliani, awarding substantial damages to the women.

Despite the settlement, Torrez voiced frustration with the lack of visible accountability for Giuliani’s actions. “If you wanted to see consequences for someone who never once behaved in good faith in court, you’ll have to keep looking,” he lamented.

While the settlement closes one chapter of Giuliani’s legal battles, his broader involvement in spreading election falsehoods continues to draw scrutiny, both in court and in the public eye. For Freeman and Moss, the resolution may provide some measure of closure after enduring Giuliani’s baseless and harmful allegations.
