Trump-backed candidate Urged to Drop Out Amid Explosive Report: ‘Major Drama’ Brewing in North Carolina
Mark Robinson, the Trump-endorsed gubernatorial candidate in North Carolina, has abruptly canceled his scheduled campaign events for Thursday, amid growing anticipation of a potentially explosive report. Sources suggest that the report could have significant implications for Robinson’s candidacy.
Independent journalist Bryan Anderson, a former North Carolina Statehouse reporter for the Associated Press, first brought attention to the brewing situation, hinting at serious developments in the North Carolina gubernatorial race. “Major drama is coming,” Anderson wrote, indicating that a report from CNN concerning Robinson is imminent.
“I have a strong sense of what the news will be, but until sources speak on record and/or on background, I can’t share what it is,” Anderson added, leaving speculation as to what the nature of the report might be. Simultaneously, the Carolina Journal reports that internal pressure is mounting on Robinson from within the Republican Party.
According to the publication, multiple sources have suggested that members of the Trump campaign and other prominent Republicans are urging Robinson to withdraw from the race even before the report has been released.
“Sources with direct knowledge have spoken with Carolina Journal on the condition of anonymity and said that Robinson is under pressure from staff and members of the Trump campaign to withdraw from the governor’s race due to the nature of the story, which they say involves activity on adult websites in the 2000s,” the report states. However, Robinson has allegedly resisted calls to step down, privately denying the validity of the claims.
This isn’t the first time Robinson has been mired in controversy. He has faced criticism for several inflammatory social media posts, including remarks in which he accused civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. of being a “communist.” In another post, Robinson labeled pop singer Beyoncé a “devil worshipper” who is allegedly leading her fans “on a fast track to hell.” As the political landscape in North Carolina heats up, Robinson’s future as a candidate remains uncertain, with many waiting to see the full impact of the upcoming report.
