Trump Lashes Out at Oprah Winfrey Over Her Support for Kamala Harris: ‘This Isn’t the Real Oprah’
Former President Donald Trump took aim at media mogul Oprah Winfrey in a late-night social media rant, following her recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential election. Winfrey had hosted a live-streamed interview with Harris on September 19, titled United for America, which featured celebrity guests and served as a virtual rally for the Democratic nominee.
Trump’s criticism was swift and scathing. Posting on Truth Social, he wrote, “When I watched her interview yesterday with a woman who is destroying, through her complete and total incompetence, America, I couldn’t help but think this isn’t the real Oprah.” He went on to claim that Winfrey is now aligned with policies that allow “millions of people, from prisons and mental institutions, and terrorists, drug dealers, and human traffickers” to enter the country.
Trump also reminisced about his past appearance on Winfrey’s talk show, saying, “A long time ago, Oprah Winfrey asked me to do her last Network Television Show. The final week of her show was a big deal, and it was my honor, with my family, to do it.” However, fact-checkers were quick to correct this, noting that Trump’s appearance actually aired in February 2011, months before Winfrey’s series finale in May of that year, as per The Guardian.
During the United for America event, Winfrey expressed optimism about the country’s political direction, saying, “There’s a real feeling of optimism and hope making a comeback…for this new day that is no longer on the horizon but is here.” The event, which had 400 in-person attendees and 200,000 live viewers, generated buzz when Harris joked about gun ownership, saying, “If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot,” before quickly adding, “Sorry. Probably shouldn’t have said that.”
Trump seized on the interview to attack both Winfrey and Harris, stating, “Kamala looked really foolish, couldn’t answer the simplest of questions on inflation, the cost of goods, or our very porous and dangerous border. No leader there, and Oprah just wanted to crawl under a table!” He continued, “Comrade Kamala Harris is mentally unfit to be president. She knows it, and so does everyone else!”
This is not the first time Trump has targeted high-profile celebrities. Just days ago, he criticized George Clooney on Truth Social, calling him “a fake movie actor” who “should get out of politics.” Trump also attacked pop star Taylor Swift after she endorsed Harris following the September 10 presidential debate, bluntly stating, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”
Despite Trump’s backlash, Winfrey remained focused on her message, posting on Facebook, “I hope you left informed and inspired to do something. Remind the people in your life of the privilege and power of their vote because united we win.”
