President-elect Donald Trump has selected Long Island attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. as his nominee for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. The district encompasses Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, and Suffolk counties and is currently led by Breon Peace.

In a statement, Trump praised Nocella’s credentials and his commitment to public service. “Judge Nocella has a strong record of bringing Law and Order to the incredible people of New York, serving as a Nassau County District Court Judge, and Family Court Judge,” Trump said.

Nocella’s extensive legal background includes graduating from Columbia Law School and over a decade in private practice. He also clerked for U.S. District Judge Lawrence M. McKenna and served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York during the 1990s, earning experience in the very office he now stands to lead.

In addition to his federal experience, Nocella held the role of town attorney for Oyster Bay, a municipality on Nassau County’s North Shore. Trump emphasized Nocella’s deep ties to the region and his broad legal expertise as key factors in his nomination.

“Congratulations Judge Nocella!” Trump said, expressing his confidence in the nominee’s ability to bring leadership and integrity to the position.

Nocella’s nomination reflects Trump’s focus on appointing experienced legal professionals with strong local connections to key federal positions. As the Eastern District of New York handles some of the most high-profile cases in the country, including organized crime, terrorism, and political corruption, Nocella’s experience and legal acumen will be closely watched during his tenure.

The nomination will require Senate confirmation, a process that will likely highlight Nocella’s qualifications and career achievements. If confirmed, he will oversee federal prosecutions and investigations in one of the nation’s most dynamic and challenging jurisdictions.

Nocella’s appointment is part of Trump’s broader effort to reshape the federal judiciary and law enforcement landscape. With his track record of public service and private practice, Nocella’s leadership is expected to have a significant impact on the Eastern District of New York.
