As Hurricane Milton approached Florida on Tuesday afternoon, former President Donald Trump took to social media to share a message—not about the storm but to promote his wife Melania’s newly released memoir. “Very proud of Melania! Her book is out Nationally, and for sale EVERYWHERE,” Trump wrote. “Perfect for Christmas. Get it NOW.”

The post coincided with the imminent arrival of the deadly storm in Trump’s home state, diverting attention to the release of Melania, the former first lady’s memoir. In her book, Melania Trump addresses various topics, including her views on abortion (supportive), her son Barron (stating he is not autistic), the 2020 presidential election (denies its legitimacy), and the U.S. Capitol riots on January 6, 2021 (describes them as unacceptable), reported the Daily Beast.

It remains unclear whether the memoir includes the infamous leaked audio in which Melania expressed frustration over her duties as First Lady during the holiday season. In the recording, she stated, “I’m working … my a– off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f— about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?”

In the lead-up to her memoir’s release, Melania Trump has released several cryptic advertisements defending herself against criticisms of her nude photos—images that, notably, few had publicly criticized. Despite the controversy surrounding her past comments and actions, Trump expressed enthusiasm about her book, writing, “It is really great! She was a fantastic First Lady and shares that experience, and much more. She’s also a really good writer.”

However, not everyone has been convinced of Melania’s authorship. Social media comedians and critics have mocked the idea that she personally wrote the book. New Yorker humorist Paul Rudnick joked about potential titles for her memoir back in July, suggesting options like A Book by Someone I Paid, I’m Not Alan Dershowitz, Pay Me for This Book, The Third Wives Club, and Me-Lania.

Early reviews have been mixed, with some questioning the quality of the writing. An Amazon reviewer, H. Drallmeyer, described the memoir as “poorly written” and sarcastically asked, “Who proofread this one?”

As the storm looms, Trump’s focus on promoting his wife’s book over addressing the hurricane has drawn attention, revealing the contrasting priorities of the former president and highlighting the ongoing controversy surrounding Melania’s public image.
