‘Corrupt and Totally Conflicted Political Hack’: Trump Rages Against Prosecutor and Judge in Felony Case

Donald Trump arrives for a campaign rally at Kinston Regional Jetport in Kinston, North Carolina.

Donald Trump unleashed a tirade on Sunday against both the prosecutor and judge involved in the criminal case where the president-elect was convicted of multiple felonies. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed his frustration over Judge Juan Merchan’s decision to schedule his felony sentencing before he officially takes office as President of the United States.

Earlier that day, a former prosecutor drew attention to an “interesting footnote” in Merchan’s filing about the sentencing, but Trump quickly took to social media to air his grievances. Trump’s comments centered on the prosecutor in the case, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

According to Trump, Bragg never wanted to bring the charges against him in the first place. “D.A. Alvin Bragg never wanted to bring this lawless case against me. He was furious at the way it was handled, and especially angry at MARK POMERANTZ for his behavior, and what he did,” Trump wrote. While Trump provided no evidence to back his claims, he further alleged that the “Biden/Harris DOJ forced Bragg to concoct anything to embarrass TRUMP.”

Trump also reserved harsh words for Judge Merchan, accusing him of being “CORRUPT and TOTALLY CONFLICTED” and calling the trial a “sham.” He added, “I even have, STILL, an Unconstitutional Gag Order where I am not allowed to speak about the Judge’s highly disqualifying Conflicts of Interest.”

According to Trump, legal scholars and pundits agree that there is “NO (ZERO!) CASE AGAINST ME,” and that Merchan had “fabricated the facts, and the law,” similar to other “New York Judicial and Prosecutorial Witch Hunts.”

In a broader critique, Trump suggested that the legal system in New York was broken, leading to businesses fleeing the state. “That’s why businesses are fleeing New York, taking with them millions of jobs, and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TAXES,” Trump claimed.

He continued, “The legal system is broken, and businesses can’t take a chance in getting caught up in this quicksand. IT’S ALL RIGGED, in this case against a political opponent, ME!!!” Trump’s furious remarks highlight his ongoing dissatisfaction with the legal challenges he faces and his accusations that the system is stacked against him.
