Joyce Vance Warns: ‘Trump Wants to Be a King, Not a President’ as 2024 Election Nears

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance, known for her outspoken criticism of Donald Trump, has issued a stern warning about the consequences of a potential Trump presidency. In a recent piece on Substack, Vance cautioned that Trump’s desire for unchecked power mirrors that of a monarch, urging Americans to recognize the significance of voting in the upcoming 2024 election.
Vance’s concerns center around the importance of civic engagement. She stressed that abstaining from voting could unintentionally help pave the way for Trump’s ambitions, stating, “Biden will need to win with overwhelming numbers as protection against what will come from Trump in the wake of a loss.” Reflecting on Trump’s actions following the 2020 election, Vance reminded readers of “The Big Lie, January 6, and Trump’s ongoing efforts to subvert democracy for his own benefit.”
Highlighting the importance of voting, Vance pointed to the narrow margin in the 2000 presidential election as an example of how even a small number of votes can determine the fate of the nation. “Remember Florida in 2000? George Bush got 2,912,790 votes, 48.8% of the total. Al Gore received 2,912,253, also 48.8% of the vote. The fate of the nation hung on fewer than 1,000 votes,” she said, as reported by Raw Story.
With Joe Biden now out of the 2024 race and Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, Vance underscored the need for a clear and decisive win to prevent Trump from exploiting any vulnerabilities in the election process. She warned of Trump’s intentions to politicize the Department of Justice and deprioritize issues like climate change.
Vance also suggested that those dissatisfied with Biden’s policies may find Trump’s potential second term far more troubling. “Dislike Biden’s stance on Israel or any number of foreign policy issues? Think he’s not doing enough about climate change or criminal justice reform. You’re going to love Trump’s policies in his 2.0 administration,” she wrote, noting the authoritarian tendencies she believes Trump would bring to a second term.
Additionally, Vance addressed the multiple legal challenges Trump is facing, including charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of official proceedings. Trump has denied all charges, calling them part of a politically motivated “witch hunt.”
Newsweek has reported For Vance, the looming threat of authoritarianism should motivate voters of all political stripes to head to the polls in 2024. “It’s the move towards authoritarianism that should get everyone, regardless of their politics, out to the polls next year,” she concluded.
