Trump’s ‘Shocking Breaking News’ Fizzles Out as Misinformation: ‘We Have to Save Our Broken Justice System’
Former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to announce what he described as “shocking breaking news.” However, it quickly became clear that his claims were nothing more than another round of misinformation, stirring controversy once again about his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots.
In his post, Trump asserted that “as exposed by the Great John Solomon, a REAL Journalist who cares about the TRUTH, and the GREAT work of Congressman Barry Loudermilk and Republicans on the House Oversight Committee,” he had directly authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., on January 6, only for his orders to be ignored.
“The Deep State chose to disregard my direct authorization of at least 10,000 National Guard Troops to ensure that Washington, D.C., was safe and secure on January 6, 2021,” Trump wrote. “These Deep State subversives disobeyed the President’s directives, which would have prevented any unrest that day—January 6th, as it is known, would never have taken place.”
Trump further claimed that these “revelations” put an end to the ongoing legal cases against him related to the January 6 insurrection. “These revelations END the Sham J6 Civil Hoaxes and the lawless D.C. Case brought by Deranged Jack Smith, which has already been demolished by the United States Supreme Court’s Historic Immunity and Fischer Decisions.”
He also reiterated his previous defense of his actions leading up to the attack on the Capitol, saying, “I called for everyone to act PEACEFULLY and PATRIOTICALLY, and demanded that D.C. be PROTECTED. The Deep State, and Crazy Nancy Pelosi, who admitted to her daughter on videotape that she was ‘responsible,’ have to be held to account, including for the damages, wasted resources, and time spent defending the Witch Hunts and Hoaxes. We have to SAVE our broken Justice System!”
Trump’s inflammatory claims, however, stand in direct contrast to facts established by multiple investigations. The bipartisan House Select Committee tasked with investigating the January 6 riots found no evidence supporting Trump’s assertions. In fact, it was Vice President Mike Pence, not Trump, who attempted to order the National Guard to deploy to the Capitol as the violence unfolded.
“Not only did President Trump refuse to tell the mob to leave the Capitol, he placed no call to any element of the United States government to instruct that the Capitol be defended,” Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) revealed during a 2022 congressional hearing.
Moreover, the credibility of John Solomon, the journalist Trump cites in his post, has long been questioned. Solomon, known for helping Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani run a smear campaign against former American ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, has a history of dubious reporting. His former publisher, The Hill, reviewed Solomon’s work and concluded that he had failed to meet basic journalistic standards.
“In certain columns, Solomon failed to identify important details about key Ukrainian sources, including the fact that they had been indicted or were under investigation,” The Hill’s editors wrote in their review. “In other cases, the sources were his own attorneys.”
Trump’s latest outburst on Truth Social once again raises concerns about his continued reliance on conspiracy theories and discredited sources to defend his actions and promote his political agenda. As the legal battles surrounding January 6 continue, Trump’s attempts to rewrite the narrative face growing scrutiny from both sides of the political spectrum.
