Expressing further doubt about the incident, which occurred in New York City on Tuesday, May 16, the EGOT winner questioned the spokesperson’s characterization. Goldberg remarked, “I think their spokesperson referenced something that you generally would reference in Los Angeles.
That’s where you have chases, that’s where you can move at high speeds. I think they were dealing with aggressive paparazzi, but I don’t think it was where, you know, you’re watching on TV … just watching the cars go … because it just doesn’t work in New York.”
Adding to the discussion, Joy Behar, another panelist, shared her perspective, saying, “Sometimes when I’m in the city and I hear an ambulance trying to get through, I think, ‘That person is dead.'”
On the other hand, Sunny Hostin challenged her co-hosts’ stance of downplaying the seriousness of the incident. She clarified, “No one ever claimed that there was a high-speed chase, and when we think of chases, we typically envision high-speed ones.” The ABC News personality also highlighted the tragic history of Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car crash involving paparazzi at the age of 36 in 1997.
Acknowledging the potential fear the couple may have experienced, Hostin stated, “If they felt scared, I understand that… Considering a situation like this, where Harry is aware of the catastrophic car chase that resulted in his mother’s death, and Meghan is aware of it too, it’s understandable that they wouldn’t want to be in a situation where e-bikes and sedans are aggressively following them around the city.” Hostin, 54, expressed her perspective.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan addressed the incident, revealing that the couple, accompanied by Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, were in a vehicle when they were pursued by a group of “highly aggressive” photographers.
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers,” the spokesperson said. “While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety. Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved.”
