Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have found themselves at the center of controversy, facing significant criticism for their actions perceived as disrespectful towards the royal family. Renowned royal historian Hugo Vickers has voiced strong disapproval of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, accusing them of engaging in behavior that he deems unacceptable within the context of royal protocol and tradition.

The couple’s actions have sparked a widespread debate, drawing attention to the intricate dynamics and expectations that govern the royal family’s public and private lives. Vickers, an authority on royal affairs, has specifically highlighted the distress he believes Meghan and Harry’s behavior caused to Queen Elizabeth II during her lifetime. According to him, their choices and public statements have not only strained their relationship with the royal institution but have also impacted the late Queen personally, contributing to an atmosphere of tension and discomfort.

“I think the statements they made caused the late Queen an enormous amount of distress and difficulties in the last year of her reign,” said Vickers. Speaking to GB News, the historian claimed: “This was unacceptable in my view and some of the statements have been contradicted even by them subsequently.”

Vickers also shared his thoughts on Kate Middleton’s uncle Goldsmith’s surprise appearance on the reality show, saying: “There always seems to be one member of the family that goes a little bit off the rails. They’ve never been able to pin a single nasty thing on Catherine Middleton, so they tried a little bit with her sister for a time.

“They wanted to paint her as a wild child. That didn’t work either. And so now you’ve got the uncle. I bet you the family would much prefer that he didn’t take part in this thing. “What he has said of course about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been said before and is rather widely accepted.” However, Hugo Vickers claimed: “I rather support what he says.”

This backlash comes in the wake of various public appearances and statements made by the Duke and Duchess since stepping down from their official royal duties and relocating to the United States. Their decision to pursue an independent life away from the traditional royal framework has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising their desire for autonomy and others criticizing what they see as a breach of royal protocol and a lack of respect for the established norms that govern the royal family’s conduct.

Vickers’ condemnation adds to the chorus of voices expressing concern over the potential long-term implications of Harry and Meghan’s actions on the royal family’s public image and internal relations. The historian’s critique underscores the ongoing debate about the balance between personal freedom and the responsibilities that come with being a member of one of the world’s most scrutinized and celebrated royal families.

As the discussion continues, the actions of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain a topic of intense public and media scrutiny, reflecting broader conversations about modernity, tradition, and the evolving role of the monarchy in today’s society. The couple’s journey, marked by their bold decisions and the ensuing backlash, highlights the challenges faced by those who seek to redefine their roles within age-old institutions while navigating the complexities of public expectation and familial duty.
