Meghan Markle’s debut on-stage appearance as a future royal member was marked by a mix-up, as revealed by David Wiseman, a close friend of Prince Harry and director of the Invictus Games Foundation.
In her 2018 appearance at the Endeavour Fund Awards, a few months before her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan faced an awkward moment. As she and co-host Neil Heritage were presenting an award, they appeared to have different versions of the script, leading to confusion and light-hearted laughter from the duchess.
The hiccup was explained on A Right Royal Podcast by Wiseman, who took responsibility for the mix-up. He recounted that Meghan’s team requested a script change last minute, but due to an oversight, Meghan received the original while her co-host got the revised version. This resulted in the two hosts disagreeing on stage about the correct version, according to the GB News.
Wiseman humorously recalled feeling mortified as he sat next to Prince Harry during the event, wishing they’d just move past the mistake. However, Meghan’s graciousness shone through when she later messaged him, assuring him not to worry about the mishap.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, since that time, have stepped back from their royal duties. They now reside in Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
