Contrary to what you may think, shaving has its own significance in men’s grooming. Therefore men’s shaving is more important than just cutting hair since it is a health issue.
Your face is always exposed, exposure to environmental elements such as the wind, sun and pollution, in addition to daily shaving and the ageing process, can be damaging to men’s skin.
Men have thicker skin than women; therefore their skincare needs are diverse. While shaving, you must follow some tips to have a fine skin after shaving. You need to open the pore on your skin and soften your hair by taking a shower or run warm water over your face for a couple of minutes.
Wash your face with an exfoliating scrub or facial cleanser to slough off the dead skin so you can get a closer shave. You can also apply olive oil to further the moisturizing process. Apply some shaving cream or gel evenly to your face. Always rub upwards on your face. If you decide to use a shaving brush, apply the cream in circular motion.
Wait for a while so the gel or cream sit on your face because wet hair is easier to cut than dry hair.
Always shave in the same direction that your hair grows. Usually facial hair grows down but under your chin it grows toward your chin. As you shave be sure and pull your skin taut to avoid nicks. Keep washing off your shaving razor throughout the process to cleanse the hair and gel off so you will continue to get the closest shave possible.
When you are finished shaving rinse your face off with cold water. Dry off your face and apply aftershave, astringent or toner. Then apply a moisturizer, preferably one with a sunscreen. Never use products with alcohol as they will dry out your skin.
Change your shaving razor often. Depending on the thickness of your beard, this could range from every 2-3 shaves or every 4-5 shaves.
Using a sharp blade on a well-moisturized face will reduce the likelihood of ingrown hair. Skincare for men is a growing market, as men realize that they can slow the ageing process and have healthier skin without taking too much time out of the day for skincare regimen. But it is important that these products be formulated for men.
