Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump and RNC co-chair, has reignited a controversial demand that President Joe Biden undergo a drug test before any upcoming debates with Donald Trump. This request echoes an unfounded conspiracy theory suggesting that Biden uses performance-enhancing drugs to maintain alertness during public speeches, as reported by Mediaite.

The original demand was made by Donald Trump at a rally in Minnesota, shortly after the scheduling of debates on June 27 and September 10. At the rally, Trump claimed, “I’m gonna demand a drug test too, by the way. I don’t want him coming in like the State of the Union. He was high as a kite.” Lara Trump reiterated this demand during an interview with Eric Bolling on Newsmax.

When asked whether the former president would insist on the drug test and if its refusal would affect his participation in the debates, Lara responded affirmatively. “Well, I don’t think it’s an outrageous request at all,” she said. “People across this country have a lot of questions about what is going on with Joe Biden. Why do you seem to see two very different versions of him in very rapid succession from time to time? We have a lot of questions that need to be answered.”

Lara also drew parallels between the scrutiny her father-in-law faced and the alleged leniency towards Biden. “You think about all of the charges and accusations over the years that they’ve leveled at Donald Trump. He’s had to defend himself multiple times, on multiple occasions, for different things. Why not, now, will Joe Biden — all we want is fairness. And we want that across the board, we want fair elections, we want fair debates,” she elaborated.

Continuing, Lara Trump posited that it would be beneficial for Americans to know if Biden was using substances. “And certainly, if somebody is using some sort of a substance, that would be nice for the American people to know”, per Raw Story.

Expanding on the justification for such a request, Bolling compared it to standard practices in sports and animal racing. “You drug test athletes, you drug test cyclists, you drug test boxers, you drug test thoroughbred horses,” he said. “I mean, you do this to make sure that there no nefarious things are going on. It’s not a crazy thing to ask.”

This conspiracy was first propagated by Trump in 2020 and has been consistently debunked by multiple news outlets. CNN pointed out that Trump made similar unfounded accusations against Biden during the 2020 election cycle and against Hillary Clinton in 2016, emphasizing the lack of evidence supporting such claims.
